He has served as a member of the Energy Xchange planning board, the Penland School of Crafts woodshop planning committee and the Mint Museum of Craft & Design advisory board. He is a founding member of the Furniture Society in Free Union, VA, and is a member of the Urban Institute of Contemporary Arts in Grand Rapids, MI. Brent is the Director of the Craft Campus at the University of North Carolina at Asheville.
