Bio/Statement
NANCY KUBALE

“Within the structure of human forms, my sculptures address our pursuit of Truth (trying to figure out what and how things really are) and the nature of our humanness. I am intrigued by what we think, do, and say, by who we are and how we live – primarily at the soul level. “My ceramic and mixed media figures begin with hand building techniques in stoneware clay. I layer the surface with terra sigillata, slips, stains, oxides and glazes – firing each piece three to five times. I often use text or make decals indicating the concept that initiated the work. After the final firing, the parts are assembled with wood, metal, fiber and found objects.” — Nancy Kubale
