Cory Williams was born in Columbia, South Carolina. After finishing high school, Cory began to work for metal fabricators and blacksmiths while fulfilling a growing curiosity and obsession. He has had the good fortune of working with many talented artists, and now works in Saluda, NC in the studio of long time employer and mentor Stoney Lamar.
Williams explores the diverse technical and aesthetic possibilities of metal in his work. His steel and wood sculptural abstractions represent the minimalization of form, often appearing weightless despite the density of their material.
“The quiet nature of my work is intended to be welcoming and thought provoking. I strive for simplicity in composition and line, hoping to invite the viewer to take a closer look at detail.”
