Bringing everyone into her realm of the wonders of nature, Virginia artist Janet Brome engages the viewer with the metal screen sculpture of her fish and fowl.

32 x 14 x 12 in
Mixed media artist Janet Brome bends and twists wire mesh into birds, animals and fish that take on a personality of their own. With a playful air - chickens made of chicken wire - her sculptures capture the spirit of their subject.
"I enjoy starting a work with an idea and letting the content dictate the medium and the approach. This takes me into new territory. These wanderings usually end up as 3-D constructions. I am currently intrigued by metal screen and what it does when manipulated. By adding color, and shaping and layering the wire mesh, I can create work that reveals surprises from every angle. While working with screen, I simply try to be open to what the material wants to do. My goal is to constantly explore and take risks. I would like my work to engage the viewer and offer delight or wonder."
