JIM CHRISTIANSEN •   Moscow, ID

Jim Christiansen makes beautifully sculpted wood art with finely crafted surface enhancements.

Like many woodworkers, Jim had his first exposure to turning wood in high school shop class. Although his early projects lacked great skill, they did create a love and appreciation for working with wood. After a long career in education, Jim purchased a lathe and began turning where he had left off nearly thirty years before. He attended a woodturning symposium in Utah, and his enthusiasm for the craft led him down a path of learning and collaborating with other artists.

Jim consistently experiments with new ideas, pushing himself forward. He has exhibited his work nationally and internationally. He has also traveled around the world teaching others about critique and design. As a mentor, he spends a lot of time in his studio working with individuals who share his love of art and want to learn more about his process.
