Matt Byrd (b. 1992, Raleigh, North Carolina) is a stone carver with a background in traditional stonemasonry. His work is the product of a yearning to create and an expression of his love for art and architecture, while his craftsmanshp pays homage to the concepts he learned in stonemasonry. Byrd compares his work to that of puzzles: pieces that can be physically and visually complex but come into clear view once assembled. The configuration is a process for which he strives; once a form is completed, he's on to the next.
