Bill Jones is an artist working in Western North Carolina. His work pulls heavily from languages of traditional functional pottery while also focusing on the sculptural potential of clay. Hailing from Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Jones studied architecture and design at Lehigh University and the University of Michigan before finding his way to Penland School of Craft in North Carolina. After being immersed in the world of clay, he moved to Seagrove, North Carolina for a formal apprenticeship. Jones has exhibited around the country including at The Smithsonian Craft Show and The St. Croix Valley Pottery Tour and is currently the long term resident artist at Township 10 in Marshall, NC.

"I grew up in an old stone farmhouse and from an early age found beauty in simple articulations of material. A loosely laid stone wall, a sketch done with a finger in damp sand, the haphazard stability of a quickly erected structure. As a potter, I work with simple materials and methods in a constant attempt to channel this same beauty. I think of my pots as drawings - each piece a passing attempt to realize a form in my head. My memory of these forms is a living thing and as it changes and distorts, so does my work. The pots are articulated by the flowing lines, jagged marks and gentle indentations left by my hands. All work is shown and no blemish is hidden."
