Four years ago, visual storyteller Robert Johnson, began the herculean task of documenting all forty-one North Carolina State Parks. In his signature style, Johnson filled his "notebooks and journals" with small paintings, annotated drawings, and illustrations of the animals, geology and vegetation he came across. An exhibition of over 90 works, he has created the largest body ever shown in the gallery's 30-year history.
"I hope that people seeing the exhibition will understand just what an ecologically diverse state we live in. I hope they will feel inspired to to go hike the trails in our parks with an observant eye. ... The more people that get out to see the beauty of these areas the more they are likely to care for state parks and want to preserve what is left of the natural environment."
* Works on display at the Cameron Museum will return to Blue Spiral 1 for exhibition from September 3rd - October 29th, 2021. All works are available for purchase through the gallery, but are not availbale to collect until Fall 2021. A portion of proceeds from all sales will be donated to the Cameron and to NC State Parks.
