Carol Milne: To Knit or Knot

With an exhibition of over fifty works, Carol Milne presents complex, woven glass sculptures which make one wonder, “How does she do that?!” Milne invented a special technique; a process of knitting, lost-wax casting, mold-making, and kiln-casting. Her resulting sculptures resemble brightly-colored knitted scarves and blankets, frozen in time, reflecting the surrounding light. Milne often adds hands or knitting needles to suggest the anticipation of progress and completion of each knitted object. For her own personal fun, she completes each work with a title suitable to the subject matter presented. This show is knot to be missed!

Carol Milne earned her undergraduate degree in Landscape Architecture. Her senior thesis, “Landscape as Art/Art as Landscape,” drew her into the realm of sculpture and cast bronze, and eventually to cast glass. Since 2000, she has been working primarily in glass at her studio in Seattle. Milne has taught widely in the United States, but also in Canada, Turkey, New Zealand, and Tasmania. Her work appears in many publications and has been internationally recognized in Korea and Japan. She exhibits extensively in the United States and had her first European solo show in Belgium in 2017.
