"Parallel Conversations: A Life's Journey with Wood Art"
Join us on Saturday, July 6th at 11:30am for an artist talk with wood sculptor, Betty Scarpino. This event is in conjunction with our "W.O.W. - Wood Only Work" exhibition in the main gallery on view July 5th - August 31st.
Betty Scarpino’s lifelong artistic career continues to be a voicing of her pleasure of working with wood, in all its forms. Her studio in Indianapolis is replete with wood, tools, forms partially explored, and potential new sculptures.
Betty’s work is represented in more than 20 major museums’ permanent collections such as the Renwick Gallery of American Art, Smithsonian Institution, Arkansas Arts Center, and Detroit Institute of Arts.
After six years as editor of American Woodturner, Betty’s return to full-time making began with an invitation to participate in an international woodcarving competition in Dongyang, China, in 2014. From that empowering experience, her new work reflects a strong sense of self-confidence, joy, and expressiveness.
This event is free and open to the public.
