"Creating art is an exercise in trust. I approach each piece without rigid plans, allowing intuition, process, and materials to guide me. My interdisciplinary practice spans fibers, ceramics, and printmaking, rooted in traditional craft processes while pushing their boundaries through experimentation. The foundation of my work is the labor of the hand—whether hand-quilting, hand-building sculpture, or hand-carving and printing."
Casey Engel (b. 1991) earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2015. Engel has participated in residencies at The Hambidge Center (Rabun Gap, GA), Township10 (Marshall, NC), The Bascom: Center for Visual Arts (Highlands, NC), and Starfangled Press (Brevard, NC), and has conducted workshops at institutions such as Converse University, The Bascom, and Odyssey Clayworks.
Engel's work has been exhibited at Blue Spiral 1 gallery (Asheville, NC), Arrowmont Gallery (Knoxville, TN), Converse University (Spartanburg, SC), Quiltcon (Raleigh, NC), McDonough Museum of Art (Youngstown, OH), The Bascom (Highlands, NC), GreenHill Center for North Carolina Art (Greensboro, NC), and Piedmont Arts Museum (Martinsville, VA); her work resides in numerous private collections globally.
